NFL Waiver Wire Picks: Week 2
QB: Jordan Love – Green Bay Packers
-16% rostered
-23 points against Chicago
-15/27 245 yards and 3 Touchdowns
Not only did Love replace Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay but now Love is replacing Rodgers on your fantasy team too. Okay, lets be real though – Aaron Rodgers was not a fantasy starter going into week 1 but if you need some depth, look at Jordan Love. He had a great performance in week 1 against a Bears defense. Green Bay typically has an explosive offense and although there was some drop off when Rodgers left, it isn’t as much as most people think. Love threw for 245 yards and 3 touchdowns all without WR Christian Watson (who is believed to be their WR1). Watson should be back next week against the Falcons which makes Jordan Love’s job that much easier.
RB: Justice Hill – Baltimore Ravens
-.3% rostered
-12.9 points against Houston
-8 carries for 9 yards and 2 Touchdowns
Soooo JK Dobbins tore his Achilles and is out for the season. John Harbaugh says the Ravens will look internally for his replacement. It sounds like a committee approach of Gus Edwards, Melvin Gordon and Justice Hill moving forward. So why would I pick a running back in a running back by committee backfield (RBBC) for my waiver wire segment? Because Hill gets ALL the goal line work. He had 8 carries on Sunday and 2 of those were for touchdowns. In this running back climate where it is almost exclusively a RBBC, you have to chase touchdowns and that’s all Justice Hill does.
WR: Puka Nacua – Los Angeles Rams
-2.3% rostered
-21.9 points against Seattle
-10 receptions on 15 targets for 119 yards
15 TARGETS!!! That’s an insane amount. Seems like Nacua is Stafford’s new #1 WR and we all know what happens when you’re Stafford’s #1 (See Cooper Kupp, Calvin Johnson). I’m not saying Nacua is on the same level as those two, but if he gets those targets, he can be the Walmart version of them. Snatch him up now and use him for weeks 3 and 4 before Kupp gets back. He plays a crazy good defense in the 49ers in Week 2 so maybe stash him that week.
TE: Hayden Hurst – Carolina Panthers
-4.8% rostered
-15.1 points against ATL
-5 receptions on 7 targets for 41 yards and a Touchdown
You guys know that finding good Tight Ends are hard and picking Hayden Hurst here might be scraping the bottom of the barrel BUT he had a great week 1 against the Falcons and has the potential to be Bryce Young’s “Safety Blanket.” Being the go to guy when a rookie QB is under pressure might be the best thing for fantasy especially when you run a short route tree. Moving forward, the Panthers should be in a lot of pass friendly game scripts which lends itself to more favorable situations for Hayden Hurst.
