NBA Power Rankings: Week 6

The NBA has started to get a hold of is Covid issues, they are starting to get less postponements. We had some great games this week and are now starting to see how good some of these teams really are. Again the criteria is the same, who beat who and how did they do it? Let’s enjoy this NBA season and hope we can finish it out. All records are as of 1.26.21.

#16 Miami Heat (6-10)

Miami Heat.png

The Heat have had a brutal start to the season. With injuries and covid they have had players in and out of the lineup all year. Jimmy Butler hasn’t played since January 9th. This team has too much talent and that is why they are still in my top 16.

#15 Atlanta Hawks (8-8)

Atlanta Hawks.png

The Hawks have been up and down all year. They have had a lot of injuries and lost Trae Young this week as well. But Clint Capela went off to lead the Hawks to a 3-1 week. They have a tough next step though. Lets see if this team can step up without it’s best player.

#14 Golden State Warriors (9-8)

Golden State Warriots.png

Vintage Steph Curry showed up this week, with a huge comeback against the Lakers and passing Reggie Miller for 2nd on the all time three pointers made list. I talked mad shit about Andrew Wiggins but he has had a good season so far, let’s hope he can keep it going.

#13 Dallas Mavericks (8-9)

Dallas Mavericks.png

Dallas is similar to Miami where they are very talented but have had a lot of players on the Covid list. Kristpas Porzingis is back and helping this team win, but he is still getting his legs underneath him. When he rests they struggle to score, but soon they will get healthy and start winning more games.

#12 San Antonio Spurs (9-8)

San Antonio Spurs.png

I have mentioned this before but the Spurs have an incredibly balanced scoring attack, seven players scoring in double figures. They only went 2-2 this week, but they are still in the thick of things in the competitive West. Can’t ever count out Pop either.

#11 Portland Trailblazers (9-7)

Portlant Trailblazers.png

They seem to be the most unlucky team in the association, after losing Jusuf Nurkic for weeks with a broken wrist, they lose CJ McCollum with a stress fracture in his foot. With the Memphis Grizzlies having games postponed this week Portland went 1-1 in the matchups this week. A long 6 game road trip is ahead of them and secondary players will have to help new Daddy Dame.

#10 Phoenix Suns (8-7)

Phoenix Suns.png

Well we talked about the fast start and that has gone out of the window. One of the main problems is Devin Booker hasn’t really hit his stride. He did drop 31 against the Nuggets before leaving with a hamstring injury. My boy Tyler thinks this Suns team is for real, he’s been known to be an idiot before, Phoenix will need to start playing better to make sure he doesn’t look stupid.

#9 Indiana Pacers (10-7)

Indiana Pacers.png

The Pacers had some good play this week after trading for Caris Lavert who subsequently had to get kidney surgery. Sabonis and Brogdon are carrying this team, but are each playing more than 36 minutes a night, that is a lot of stress on the two stars and it showed when they lost to the Raptors to finish the week.

#8 Denver Nuggets (10-7)

Denver Nuggets.png

If this was baseball Nikola Jokic would win the MVP for the western conference and another player would win in the East. They have finally started to play well after a slow start to the season. Jamal Murray is playing better and they got Michael Porter Jr back from injury. Expect this team to continue to play well.

#7 Boston Celtics (10-6)

Boston Celtics.png

I was praising the Celtics for a long time, but they seem to have the same problem as they did before, they don’t have enough talent at center. Joel Embiid was unstoppable against Tristan Thompson. They do have some good news, Kemba Walker is looking good in his return and Jayson Tatum is back from a positive covid-19 test.

#6 Brooklyn Nets (11-8)

Brooklyn Nets.png

We finally got our first look at the big three of the Nets, and well they were what we expected. They can score in bunches but their defense is awful. Their depth is an issue and they are relying heavily on KD, Kyrie, and Harden. They will take some time to adjust but back to back losses to the Cavs means they drop down in the rankings.

#5 Milwaukee Bucks (10-6)

Milwaukee Buckw.png

Oh the Bucks, they had a really important week against two of the best teams in the league. They lost to the Nets earlier in the week and then the Lakers showed up and won a good game. Khris Middleton has been the guy in the closing minutes, not the Greek Freak. They will need to figure that out if they want to go deeper into the playoffs.

#4 Philadelphia 76ers (12-6)

Philadelphia 76ers.png

Remember when I said Nikola Jokic would win the mvp if there were two of them? Well I’ve got Joel Embiid winning it for the 76ers. The 76ers had two big wins over the Celtics and their dynamic duo is playing well. Tobias Harris has found his scoring touch and has almost gone unnoticed. The 76ers are in first in the East and should be in the top three but the other teams are playing extremely well.

#3 Utah Jazz (12-4)

Utah Jazz.png

The Jazz are the hottest team in the NBA right now, they have rattled off eight wins in a row including wins over the Bucks and Nuggets. This is finally the Utah team that we were expecting, and Donovan Mitchell is scorching hot right now. Look out Los Angeles the Jazz are coming for the top spot in the West.

#2 Los Angeles Lakers

Los Angeles Lakers.png

The Lakers finally get knocked out of my top spot in the rankings after being there for most of the year. They had a big win over the Bucks before Anthony Davis went off in his hometown and destroyed the Bulls. They are probably the best team in the NBA, but after blowing a 19 point lead to the Warriors they had to drop one spot.

#1 Los Angeles Clippers (13-4)

Los Angeles Clippers.png

The Clippers have taken over the top spot in my rankings this week because they have won seven in a row and are playing at an elite level. They are beating teams by an average of 17 points a game and their defense is finally starting to show us what they are made of. Paul George has finally been the player LA was hoping for and he is playing the best basketball of his career.
