MLB Power Rankings: Week 11
12 - Pittsburgh Pirates (34-30)
The Pirates continue to hold on to their NL Central lead over the Brewers by 1 game entering the week. Andrew McCutchin recorded his 2,000th career hit in front of the home crowd at PNC Park, which was an amazing moment. Pittsburgh is a team that’s easy to root for.
11 - Miami Marlins (37-30)
Miami continues to win games with a sweep of the Royals and series win against the White Sox last week. The fish are getting some incredible individual performances from Luis Arraez and Jorge Soler. They have a path to the postseason with the NL Wild Card race very much anyone’s game.
10 - Los Angeles Angels (37-31)
I said last week that the Angels needed to go on a run, and they have done exactly that. Winners of 7 of their last 8 games, the Halos swept the Cubs and got a series win against the Mariners as they head into a week against the first place Rangers. Great time to be hot.
9 - Toronto Blue Jays (37-30)
Although they lost a series to the Twins, they got a huge four game series win against the Astros that was a much needed confidence boost. They still find themselves 10 games back of the division lead but that’s the reality of the division they’re in.
8 - New York Yankees (38-29)
As soon as the Yankees got healthy again, Aaron Judge landed back on the IL with a foot injury. It shouldn’t keep him out for long but the Yankees at times look uninspired and lackadaisical. That’s gotta change if they want to keep pace in a very competitive AL postseason picture.
7 - Houston Astros (37-29)
After getting close to retaking the division lead, the Astros have gone on a slump. They went 1-5 last week against the Blue Jays and Guardians. On top of that, their star slugger, Yordan Alvarez went on the IL with an oblique injury. Oof.
6 - Los Angeles Dodgers (37-29)
Speaking of oof…the Dodgers got walked off three times last week by the Reds and Phillies. The bullpen, and pitching as a whole, has been a weak spot for LA this season. That’s a very uncharacteristic flaw, as the Dodgers have been in the top 3 in team ERA in 6 of the last 7 seasons.
5 - Arizona Diamondbacks (41-25)
Winners of 12 of their last 14 games, the D-Backs have slithered their way to the top of the NL West standings. Entering this week with a 6-game win streak and 4 game lead in the division, Arizona looks like a great team.
4 - Baltimore Orioles (41-24)
Baltimore continues to hold strong at the 2nd spot in the AL East. They’ve been one of the more consistent teams in baseball this season. They’ve only had one losing streak longer than 2 games (3 games from May 6-8) and have only lost 5 series so far this year.
3 - Atlanta Braves (40-26)
The Braves had their 7-game win streak come to an end after their loss to the Nationals on Sunday. They have a 4-game lead on the Marlins for 1st place in the NL East entering the week.
2 - Texas Rangers (41-24)
The Rangers lost a series to the Rays over the weekend in what was a potential ALCS preview. Despite that series loss, the Rangers are still in a great position sitting atop the AL West standings by 4.5 games.
1 - Tampa Bay Rays (48-21)
Tampa Bay went into Texas and got the series win. It was a statement that they are still the undisputed best team in baseball. Their 5-game lead in the AL East is the largest division lead in MLB.
