MLB Power Rankings: Week 10
12 - Miami Marlins (33-28)
It’s not the Mets or the Phillies sitting in 2nd place in the NL East, it’s the Miami Marlins. In a surprisingly weak division, the Marlins have won 9 of their last 12 games and are 3 games back of 1st place. The team isn’t in the top half of the league in any team stat except for batting average (but that’s mostly because of Luis Arraex insane BA of .399). I don’t think this team will be in the top of the rankings for long but right now they are hot.
11 - Pittsburgh Pirates (32-27)
The Pirates are sticking around in the NL Central race. The Brewers have not looked like a great team this season, and Pittsburgh, to their credit, has taken advantage of a weak division. They are an average team in most areas but they certainly have enough to win this division and who knows what can happen once you make the postseason.
10 - Toronto Blue Jays (33-28)
The Blue Jays had a good week, going 5-1 against the Brewers and Mets. I have been hard on this Jays team because I really think their record should be better than what it is. There’s so much potential! They haven’t played great against other top teams in the league but they have a chance to change that narrative with a series against the Astros and Twins this week.
9 - Minnesota Twins (31-29)
The Twins continue to hold their lead in the AL Central behind their elite pitching. They got an impressive series win against the Astros last week and earned a series split against the Guardians. The tough schedule continues this week with road matchups against the Rays and Blue Jays.
8 - Arizona Diamondbacks (35-25)
The DBacks enter this week with a share of the NL West lead with the Dodgers. I don’t think this team is going anywhere anytime soon. They have proven they have a good enough team to contend for a postseason spot and to be tied for first in the NL West in June is no small feat. Their next four series are against teams who are below .500 - they might just be your division leaders here pretty soon.
7 - New York Yankees (36-25)
The Yankees had a very successful 4-2 road trip against the Mariners and Dodgers last week. It’s amazing how great this offense looks when they’re all healthy. It’s just a matter of how long they can stay on the field.
6 - Los Angeles Dodgers (35-25)
The Dodgers have played a bit average of their last 10 games. It was a bit disappointing to see them lose series to the Rays and the Yankees, even though they were hard fought, close games. Arizona is going to be a problem for them, as their division lead is being threatened entering this week.
5 - Atlanta Braves (35-24)
Never a good look when you lose a series to the A’s. Atlanta bounced back from that with a series win against the Diamondbacks over the weekend. Max Fried going on the 60-day IL is a huge blow. Atlanta still has great pitching depth and hold a 3 game lead in the NL East.
4 - Houston Astros (36-24)
The Astros continue to look like the defending champs as of late and have inched closer to the top of the division. They got a huge 4-game series win against the Angels over the weekend. There’s a good chance the Astros could have the MVP (Yordan Alvarez), Cy Young (Framber Valdez), and Rookie of the Year (Hunter Brown) on their team.
3 - Baltimore Orioles (37-22)
The Orioles continue to hold onto the 2nd spot in the AL East after a 3-3 week against the Guardians and Giants. The strength of the rotation continue to be the key to success for this team and if that continues, Baltimore will like where they end up at the end of the season.
2 - Texas Rangers (39-20)
Owners of the best run differential in baseball, the Rangers have continued to dominate the league. They made the Mariners look like a JV team last weekend. The Rangers are legit and are here to stay. It looks like we’ll have a great battle in Texas all season for the AL West crown.
1 - Tampa Bay Rays (43-19)
The Rays continue their reign on top of the power rankings this week. They dropped a series to the Cubs but bounced back with a big 4-game series win in Boston. Shane McClanahan continues his Cy Young season and currently holds this gorgeous stat line: 9-1, 2.02 ERA, 87 K’s in 75.2 innings pitched. Damn, son.
