MLB Power Rankings: Week 10

10 - New York Mets (32-25)

(PR: 10)

The Mets hold on to the 10th spot for the second week in a row after taking 2 of 3 from the Padres and are 4-3 against them this season, not too shabby. Mets fans breathed a huge sigh of relief when Jacob deGrom’s MRI came back with no serious damage after being taken out of his start with elbow discomfort. To be honest, I don’t care about anyone else on this team other than deGrom, it’s his show and I want to see him healthy and chase history. His ERA is now down to an insane 0.56. He has also driven in more runs as a hitter than he has given up as a pitcher - what a season this is!

9 - Milwaukee Brewers (38-27)

(PR: NR)

A 14-2 run has propelled this team back into the top 10 and into a battle with the Cubs for the NL Central lead. How do you win baseball games when your best hitter is hitting .237? Easy, you get 3 starting pitchers with ERA’s under 3 and have a bullpen that leads the league in K/9.

8 - Houston Astros (37-28)

(PR: 7)

The Astros score runs better than any other team in baseball and last week not only did they win the series against the Red Sox but they also overtook them for best offense in the league. They have four players in their lineup with a WAR of 2 or higher, more than any other team.

7 - Oakland Athletics (40-27)

(PR: 8)

Oakland A's.png

Winners of 10 of their last 12, the A’s continue to win games and no one is really talking about it. I am guilty of it too and some might argue that this A’s team is too low on these rankings. They just flat out find ways to win games which is obviously the most important thing. Matt Olson is having a career year the Chris Bassitt, Sean Manaea duo is as good of a 1-2 punch as you’ll get in the game.

6 - Boston Red Sox (39-27)

(PR: 5)

A rough week for Boston, going 2-4 against the Astros and Blue Jays, and they fall out of the top 5 for the first time since the early part of the season. The pitching has been an issue lately as they have struggled to find consistency. Boston will have to turn things around if they want to keep pace with Tampa Bay in the AL East.

5 - Chicago Cubs (38-27)

(PR: 9)

The Cubs continue to play excellent baseball of late. Surprisingly, it is the pitching that has been the reason as they lead all of baseball in team ERA over the last 2 weeks. The NL Central looks to be a chameleon of ever evolving contenders but for now the Cubbies have the slight advantage.

4 - Los Angeles Dodgers (39-26)

(PR: 6)

LA Dodgers.png

The Dodgers did what they should against weaker opponents Pittsburg and Texas by winning 5 of 6 games. Injuries continue to plague this team as Max Muncy went down with an oblique strain. Albert Pujols has been a surprisingly good asset to LA, however, and should help fill the gap.

3 - San Francisco Giants (40-25)

(PR: 3)

A strange week for the Giants, going 3-3 against the Rangers and Nationals in which the offense was very quiet but they became the first NL team to reach 40 wins. They scored only 3 runs in 4 games against the Nats but still won two games. No secret the key to their success is the pitching. It will keep them competitive in a very tight NL West.

2 - Tampa Bay Rays (42-24)

(PR: 1)

The Rays drop one spot this week but they are still playing great baseball with a 4-1 week. Over the last two weeks, no team has a better ERA. Randy Arozarena and Joey Wendle continue to lead the offense that has done better than expected. Tampa Bay is starting to pull away from the rest of the AL East.

1 - Chicago White Sox (41-24)

(PR: 4)

Winners of 8 of their last 10 games, the White Sox take back the top spot in the power rankings for the second time this season. They currently have the best run differential in baseball at +106 and it’s no surprise when you look at the stats and see that they do everything well. They pitch, hit, run, and defend at an elite level. This team will be at or near the top of the rankings all season long.
