MLB Power Rankings: Week 11

10 - Cleveland Indians (40-30)

(PR: NR)

We start this week’s rankings off with a newcomer, the Cleveland Indians. They have been lurking just outside the top 10 for a while but they managed to squeak in after a 5-2 week. They are currently only 2 games back of the White Sox for the AL Central lead. The team has been unlucky with injuries to their pitching staff but the depth this team has in their farm system has been on full display.

9 - New York Mets (37-30)

(PR: 10)

An up and down week for the Mets, as they took 3 of 4 from the Cubs but then lost 3 of 4 to the Nationals. DeGrom continues to have an incredible season despite dealing with nagging injuries in his elbow and shoulder. Fransico Lindor had a 2-HR, 5-RBI performance last week that will hopefully get him back to star level.

8 - Oakland Athletics (44-30)

(PR: 7)

Matt Olson continues to have a super underrated season. The A’s swept the Angels but then lost the series to the Yankees last week and surrendered the AL West lead to the streaking Astros. They have another good test this weekend and they take on their rival across the bay in San Francisco.

7 - Boston Red Sox (43-29)

(PR: 6)

The Red Sox have slowly been trickling down these power rankings but still find themselves in first place. I mentioned a few weeks ago that this team plays super steady and seems to be immune to streaky play in either direction. They continue to be the model of consistency which will be the key to their success.

6 - San Diego Padres (43-32)

(PR: 9)

The Padres have had a rough stretch of games over the last two weeks but they ended last week with a sweep at home against the Reds. The offense has struggled with the exception of Fernando Tatis Jr. of course. Thankfully for them, their great pitching staff will keep this team afloat during offensive droughts. A huge series this week against the Dodgers at home will be a fun one to watch.

5 - Tampa Bay Rays (43-30)

(PR: 2)

A really tough week for Tampa Bay, going 1-6 against the White Sox and Mariners and their ace, Tyler Glasnow, went on the IL with a UCL sprain. They lost their first place standing in the AL East and things are not looking good right now. But if there is one thing I have learned about the Rays, it’s to never count them out, they always find ways to win.

4 - Chicago White Sox (43-29)

(PR: 1)

The White Sox started the week off well by taking 2 of 3 against the Rays but they followed it up by getting swept by the Astros in a 4 game series. The series against the Astros was a test to see how this team could perform against an experienced contender, and they failed badly. The White Sox should bounce back as their next six series are against teams below .500.

3 - Los Angeles Dodgers (44-28)

(PR: 4)

The Dodgers continue to take advantage of an easy schedule, going 5-1 against the Phillies and Diamondbacks last week. The offense has struggled to find consistency all season, mostly due to injury. The Dodgers should get Cody Bellinger and Max Muncy back this week which will be just in time for a stretch of big series against the Padres, Cubs, and Giants.

2 - Houston Astros (44-28)

(PR: 8)

The Astros have been hovering at the bottom half of the top 10 pretty much all season but after a 8-game win streak they have rocketed to number 2 this week. It’s no secret, I despise the Astros and probably have been putting them lower than they deserve. Houston is currently the king of run differential in baseball at +120 and has scored more runs than anyone else, and it’s not even close.

1 - San Francisco Giants (46-26)

(PR: 3)

It really hurts to have the Giants and the Astros in the 1-2 spots but I have to be honest with how they look, and the Giants have been playing great baseball all season. As we approach late June, it doesn’t seem like the Giants are gonna slow down. It will be a fascinating race to watch in the NL West.
