MLB Power Rankings: Week 12

10 - New York Mets (40-34)

(PR: 9)

The Mets really just need to play average baseball in order to win their division and make the postseason. I don’t really know what to make of this team after that. It’s all about Jacob deGrom and his insane season right now.

9 - Milwaukee Brewers (46-33)

(PR: NR)

The Brewers have been playing very good baseball over the last three weeks and have taken over first place in the NL Central. The Brewers have a great 1-2 punch in the starting rotation and even better 8th/9th inning shutdown arms in the bullpen, making them a scary matchup in a potential postseason series.

8 - Oakland Athletics (47-33)

(PR: 8)

Not a great week for the A’s, going 3-4 against the Rangers and Giants. Despite that and their division rival, Astros, playing very well, they are only 1.5 games out of first place in the AL West. The A’s are not going to wow anyone and I’m pretty sure they have held this 8 spot in the power rankings for the last 3 or 4 weeks. They stay consistent and will be fighting for the division all season.

7 - Tampa Bay Rays (47-32)

(PR: 5)

TB Rays.png

The Rays needed a series win against the Red Sox and they got it. They also took 2 of 3 from the Angels for a 4-2 week. Even though it looks like their ace, Tyler Glasnow, will be out for a while, this Rays team is built on depth and they will continue to stay competitive all season long.

6 - Boston Red Sox (48-31)

(PR: 7)

The Red Sox began the week losing a series to the Rays but then swept the Yankees over the weekend. Boston is now 6-0 against their rival this season and that to me is a sign that the sox are back and ready to win a division.

5 - Chicago White Sox (45-32)

(PR: 4)

The White Sox are in a bit of a funk right now, having lost 8 of their last 12 games. Over a long season, even the best teams will struggle. The southsiders will look to bounce back with an easier schedule the next two weeks, taking on the Twins, Tigers and Orioles.

4 - San Diego Padres (47-33)

(PR: 6)

The Padres dominated their SoCal rival at home last week and have won 9 of their last 10 games. It’s a good sign for Padres fans that their team is able to step up in big moments. They continue to lack consistency but they are still a top team in this league.

3 - Los Angeles Dodgers (48-31)

(PR: 3)

A very poor showing in San Diego from the offense started the week off on a bad note but the Dodgers turned it around and took 3 of 4 from the Cubs over the weekend. LA is finally starting to look healthy again and they have a chance to make a move on the Giants with a two-game set next week.

2 - Houston Astros (48-31)

(PR: 2)

The Astros 11-game winning streak finally came to an end last week against the Tigers. Make no mistake, this Astros team is back to being the team to beat in the American League. They have put on a show the last couple weeks and I don’t see them slowing down anytime soon.

1 - San Francisco Giants (50-28)

(PR: 1)

The Giants keep rolling along with a 4-1 week against the Angels and Athletics. This team does not beat themselves as they continue to hold onto the top spot in the power rankings as we enter July. The Giants have a big series against the Dodgers in LA to test their dominance.
