MLB Power Rankings: Week 13
10 - New York Mets (44-37)
(PR: 10)
I quite honestly find this team to be very boring, except for deGrom of course. They play in a weak division but aren’t exactly dominating it. The offense should be way better than it is but despite all that, they are playing winning baseball and hold on to the 10th spot in the rankings for the fourth week in a row.
9 - Oakland Athletics (49-37)
(PR: 8)
The A’s have been a sub .500 team over the last 2 weeks and the Astros are starting to pull ahead in the division. They have a big opportunity to make up a lot of ground with a 3-game set in Houston this week.
8 - Tampa Bay Rays (49-36)
(PR: 7)
Over the last couple weeks, the Rays won 4 in a row then lost 7 in a row, then won 5 in a row, then lost 5 in a row. They are going to have a play much better if they want to keep pace with the Red Sox in the AL East.
7 - San Diego Padres (50-37)
(PR: 4)
A 3-3 week by the Padres drops this team down a few spots in the rankings. I mentioned last week that this team is very streak-prone and that continues to be the case. They need to play more consistent baseball because the Dodgers and Giants are slowly creating some separation for the top 2 spots in the NL West.
6 - Chicago White Sox (49-35)
(PR: 5)
The White Sox continue to play inconsistent baseball. They did ride a nice 5-game win streak last week and they have the advantage of playing in a weak division. They currently hold a 6-game lead over the second place Indians. I don’t see them being challenged by anyone else in that division.
5 - Milwaukee Brewers (51-35)
(PR: 9)
The Brewers ran their season high winning streak to 11 games last week before losing on Sunday to the Pirates. This team is carried by their pitching, especially their big 3 in the starting rotation which may be the best in baseball - Brandon Woodruff, Corbin Burnes, and Freddy Peralta.
4 - Houston Astros (52-33)
(PR: 2)
The Astros somehow got swept by the Orioles but then finished the week with a 4-game sweep of the Indians. They still have a solid hold on the division which will be challenged this week with a 3-game set against the second place Oakland A’s.
3 - Boston Red Sox (54-32)
(PR: 6)
The Red Sox are rolling, having won 10 of their last 11 games. They have started to pull away in the division as well, expanding their lead to 4.5 games over the second place Tampa Bay Rays. Even better news for Boston, Chris Sale is a week away from beginning a rehab start.
2 - San Francisco Giants (53-31)
(PR: 1)
They started the week on a rough start, dropping both games of an important series against their rival, Dodgers. They were able to take 3 of 4 from the abysmal Diamondbacks over the weekend and have managed to hold on to first place in the division. They need to play better against the Dodgers and Padres if they expect to take the division crown.
1 - Los Angeles Dodgers (53-32)
(PR: 3)
Ever since being no-hit by the Cubs last week, the Dodgers have not lost a game. They swept a 2-game series against the Giants at home and a 4-game series on the road in Washington. The pitching has been stellar and they sit just 0.5 games back of the Giants for first in the division after entering the week 4.5 games back.
