MLB Power Rankings: Week 7

12 - Toronto Blue Jays (22-19)

(PR: 12)

Toronto had a good week but still have a lot of work to do to climb up the ranks. Vladimir Guererro Jr. has been struggling and they need to get him figured out before they can go on a run. The Blue Jays beat the teams they are supposed to but they need to prove they can beat better competition.

11 - San Francisco Giants (22-18)

(PR: 8)

The Giants had a rough week having lost 6 of their last 8 games. The big punch coming against the Padres over the weekend and the sour cherry on top was the injury to Brandon Belt. Every team is bound to go through some rough patches. We’ll see if the Giants can bounce back.

10 - Minnesota Twins (25-16)

(PR: 11)

A lot of people, myself included, are looking past this Twins team. But maybe there is something there. They have won 6 of their last 7 and continue to hold on to their division lead by four games over the White Sox. They do everything well and look to be bouncing back from a disappointing 2021 season.

9 - Tampa Bay Rays (24-17)

(PR: 10)

The Rays feel like a team that will go on a run or two during the season. Considering how great the Yankees have been, being 5 games back ain't too bad.

8 - St. Louis Cardinals (23-18)

(PR: 9)

The Cardinals have a great offense and it continues to be the strength of this team. The pitching is doing fine but they haven’t been able to keep pace with the Brewers so far this season. They are only 3 games back and those matchups with Milwaukee will be must wins.

7 - Milwaukee Brewers (26-15)

(PR: 5)

The Brewers continue to play very well. The biggest thing they need to continue doing well is scoring runs. The pitching will always be solid even if it isn’t as spectacular as it was last season. If the offense can continue their great production, they will be division champs by the end of the season.

6 - Los Angeles Angels (26-17)

(PR: 6)

The Angels went on a little 4-game skid last week but managed to win the final two games of the week against Oakland. They are keeping pace with the Astros, just 1.5 games back of the AL West lead. The Halos lead all of baseball in team slugging percentage (.423) and team batting average against (.213). The latter being the big reason this team is contending.

5 - San Diego Padres (27-14)

(PR: 7)

The Padres pulled off a big sweep of the Giants last weekend and are just 0.5 game back of the Dodgers for the division lead. No one is really talking about this team being a serious contender. They need to prove they can beat the Dodgers to enter that conversation but they are playing great baseball right now.

4 - New York Mets (28-15)

(PR: 3)

The Mets have fallen down the team pitching stats a bit due to injuries. However, they continue to play good baseball and find themselves with a comfortable 8 game lead in the NL East. If they can get healthier, this team will be very hard to beat.

3 - Houston Astros (27-15)

(PR: 4)

The Astros continue to get great performances out of their starting pitching and they have started to get more depth production from their lineup. They look to be one of MLB’s elite teams once again.

2 - Los Angeles Dodgers (27-13)

(PR: 2)

After a losing week, the Dodgers rolled off 7 wins in a row before losing Sunday at Philadelphia. Mookie Betts is on a tear right now. The MLB leader in runs scored has overcome his slow start and in his last 21 games he is hitting .333 with 7 home runs, 18 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

1 - New York Yankees (29-12)

(PR: 1)

The Yankees are on pace to break the all-time record in team wins. They’re off to a phenomenal start with most players healthy and playing very well. It’s a long season and their rate of winning will most likely come down a bit but they are living up to the sky high expectations that’s always put on this organization.
