NFL Waiver Wire Picks: Week 5
Teams on BYE: Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, Seattle Seahawks, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
QB: Joshua Dobbs – Arizona Cardinals
-2.1% rostered
-23.4 points against the San Francisco 49ers
-28/41 for 265 yards and 2 TDs. Added 12 carries for 48 yards
He may not be able to find his jersey in the team store, but he sure can play football. The Cardinals were supposed to be awful this year. Dobbs has made it so they are mildly watchable. He put up some solid fantasy numbers against a top 3 defense in the league. He has surpassed 23+ fantasy points twice now! If you take that week 1 dud against Washington out of the equation, he has played really great this season. He also has very good rushing ability and can maneuver well in the pocket. Over the last 3 games, he has 148 yards rushing. Everyone knows a rushing QB is a great fantasy QB. Up next Dobbs faces off against a Bengals team that is actually terrible. Could be a high scoring affair.
RB: Gus Edwards – Baltimore Ravens
-45.6% rostered
-6.9 points against Cleveland Browns
-15 carries for 48 yards. Added 2 rec for 1 yard
That stat line may not be sexy, but the upcoming matchup is. We will get to that in a second but before we do, we have to talk about how Gus Edwards has become the #1 back in Baltimore. Since JK Dobbins tore his Achilles, the hierarchy of this backfield was mucky. In this last game against Cleveland, Edwards had 15 carries and the other 2 RBs only had 3 carries each. Edwards is far and away the primary RB. Now for the matchup. The Ravens play the Steelers next week. I thought this would be a terrible matchup for Edwards but it shocked me to see that the Steelers are 29th in run defense and allow an average of 148 rushing yards per game. The Ravens are actively trying to add longevity to Lamar Jackson (hence the offensive scheme change) so more carries will be given to the RBs moving forward.
WR: Romeo Doubs – Green Bay Packers
-33.9% rostered
-18.5 points against Detroit Lions
-9 rec on 13 targets for 95 yards
It seems like I have a Packer in my waiver wire articles every week. They’re pretty much a fantasy goldmine at this point. Doubs is good. He has been since last year but injuries hampered him. Ive been touting the return of WR Christian Watson but even with him making his season debut, Doubs still had 13 targets. I was wrong the entire time. Doubs is the #1 WR in Green Bay. On the season he has 20 receptions for 224 yards and 3 TDs. He faces off against a horrendous Raiders team this week.
TE: Logan Thomas – Washington Commanders
-7.8% rostered
-7.3 points against Philadelphia Eagles
-3 rec on 3 targets for 41 yards
Logan Thomas is a very consistent target for QB Sam Howell. He has played in 3 games this year and has been targeted 14 times. That’s a lot for every TE not named Travis Kelce. The main reason why I picked Thomas is because they play the Chicago Bears this week. The Bears are 29th in total defense (there are only 32 teams in the league) and just let the Broncos come back to win after being up 28-7 in the 3rd quarter. The Bears are just bad. Plain and simple. Go get some Logan Thomas stock this weekend.
