NFL Waiver Wire Picks: Week 8

Teams on BYE: None

QB: Gardner Minshew – Indianapolis Colts

-3.6% rostered

-27.1 points against Cleveland Browns

-15/23 for 305 yards and 2 TDs. Added 3 carries for 29 yards and 2 TDs

Anthony Richardson is likely out for the remainder of the season which means the QB position for the Colts belongs to Minshew. In the game against the Browns, he had 4 total turnovers (1 INT and 3 FUML) but he was still able to put up 27+ fantasy points against an elite defensive group. I don’t see the turnovers (mostly the fumbles) being an issue moving forward. Minshew is the chosen one (shout out Mike Brown) and has shown great control of this offense over the last 2 games. He threw for 329 yards against the Jaguars and 305 yards against the Browns. If that doesn’t show command and comfortability within the offense, I don’t know what will. On top of that, Jonathan Taylor is looking more like his old self with each passing week which in turn make Minshew that much more effective on play action plays!

RB: D’Onta Foreman – Chicago Bears

-42.8% rostered

-33 points against the Las Vegas Raiders

-16 carries for 80 yards and 2 TDs. 3 receptions for 31 yards and 1 TD

Well this week’s performance was surprising to say the least. The Bears are a rushing team and it doesn’t matter who the QB is. They will run the ball ALL THE TIME. Foreman is most likely still the number 1 RB next week. I say most likely because there is a possibility that Roschon Johnson makes it back from concussion protocol but even if he does, Foreman’s massive performance guarantees him more work moving forward. At times against the Raiders, Foreman looked like prime Derrick Henry. He looked that good and he has a nose for the endzone. Up next Foreman and the Bears play against the Chargers who are 19th against the run.

WR: Josh Downs – Indianapolis Colts

-34.5% rostered

-23.5 points against Cleveland Browns

-5 receptions on 6 targets for 125 yards and a TD

Josh Downs is making his second appearance in my Waiver Wire picks! As I said in my week 6 article, he is going to be great because he has a great relationship with QB Gardner Minshew. It has been clear as day over the last couple games. Since week 5, he has been targeted 20 times and has brought in 16 of those targets. Elite numbers for the last 3 weeks! He might have even established himself as the WR1 in that Colts offense. As I mentioned in the Gardner Minshew section above, Jonathan Taylor looking more like OG Jonathan Taylor will make this passing game better and allow more passing lanes. Grab him soon because he won’t be available for long.

TE: Taysom Hill – New Orleans Saints

-5.6% rostered

-16.8 points against Jacksonville Jaguars

-4 receptions on 5 targets for 50 yards. Added 5 carries for 18 yards and a TD

It was only a matter of time before I picked the Swiss army knife, Taysom Hill, to be my TE Waiver Wire pick. I try so hard to stay away from this guy because his usage is so inconsistent and hard to interpret but he’s been killing it over the last 2 weeks! 29+ points over the last 2 weeks. It seems like HC Dennis Allen is trying to get him in there as much as possible because he makes things happens. Clearly Derek Carr isn’t, so you bring in Hill to get stuff done and get some energy out on the field. No guarantee he gets double digits against the Colts but it’s more likely that he does especially since the Colts are 20th in the league against TEs.
